 | ＜p＞Il Canzoniere, meno comunemente conosciuto col titolo originale in latino Francisci Petrarchae laureati poetae Rerum vulgarium fragmenta ("Frammenti di componimenti in volgare di Francesco Petrarca, poeta coronato d'alloro"), ? la storia, attraverso la poesia, della vita interiore di Petrarca. L'amore non corrisposto per Laura, incontrata l'unica volta - a detta del poeta - il 6 aprile 1327, ? il fulcro della vita spirituale del Petrarca; il poeta credeva infatti che, sulla base dei propri studi sui classici, tutto divenisse spontaneamente letteratura. Da tale sostrato letterario ha origine la grande poesia petrarchesca. Con Petrarca la letteratura diventa maestra di vita e nasce la prima lezione dell'umanesimo. In Petrarca si avverte la ricerca della serenit?. Lo sconforto, il dolore, la volont? di pentimento, divengono speranza; il pianto per la morte della donna amata si placa nell'immagine di Laura che scende consolatrice dal cielo. Nella poesia del Petrarca la descrizione dei sentimenti trova riscontro o contrapposizione nel paesaggio. Il Petrarca perfezion? le forme della tradizione lirica medievale, dai provenzali prese il metro (la sestina) e ne rielabor? i modi poetici. Anche la raffigurazione della donna amata si inquadra nella tematica provenzale: Laura ? la donna a cui il poeta rende omaggio e costituisce il fulcro ideale intorno al quale si dispone la vita sentimentale del poeta. Presa a modello di virt? e di bellezza non ha nulla di sovrumano; anzi, matura negli anni attraverso il Canzoniere. La sua figura, i suoi tratti umani, i begli occhi, le trecce bionde, il dolce riso, sono ispirati a personaggi reali. L'immagine di Laura ? probabilmente quella di una cantatrice attiva in Veneto nella seconda met? del XIV secolo. La seconda parte del Canzoniere si chiude con la canzone Alla Vergine, nella quale il poeta implora perdono ed esprime un intenso desiderio di superare ogni conflitto, di trovare finalmente la pace.
