Le riflessioni su detti simboli mi hanno indotto a considerare i bisogni dell'antico popolo egizio sotto una nuova luce: se la durata della piena del fiume Nilo era di quasi due mesi, spesso estivi, come si dissetavano le persone in quel lasso di tempo? La potabilit? dell'acqua, che ai giorni nostri sembra una caratteristica scontata, non lo era affatto nell'antico Egitto e a poco vale rimarcare l'eccellente azione fertilizzante del prezioso limo, se poi lo stesso limo rendeva inaccessibile il bene di vitale importanza. Da questa considerazione nasce l'idea di rivedere le priorit? di quel popolo che verosimilmente, in relazione all'acqua potabile, doveva necessariamente essere unito: tutti, dal pi? umile contadino al faraone stesso, dovevano essere impegnati nella risoluzione del problema. Nella costruzione di grandi opere, probabilmente la gestione dell'immensa forza-lavoro non richiedeva l'uso di mezzi di persuasione: non servivano schiavi e soprattutto non servivano schiavisti, perch? chiunque lavorasse conosceva bene l'obiettivo finale e certamente collaborava spontaneamente per raggiungere quel fine. Questa osservazione mi porta a rivalutare anche le pi? note "grandi opere" dell'Egitto, le piramidi che, a questo punto, sarebbero state anch'esse in qualche modo collegate al bisogno di acqua potabile. In effetti alcune caratteristiche costruttive delle piramidi sono poco compatibili con la funzione convenzionalmente attribuita loro: per custodire le spoglie di un faraone sarebbe stato sufficiente perforare una collina gi? presente, piuttosto che costruire di sana pianta una nuova collina. Peraltro gli stessi Egizi gi? lo facevano, nella Valle dei Re, presso Luxor. Dunque ? possibile che le piramidi non siano state progettate per essere tombe reali, ma per assolvere ad una funzione di natura idrica. Ci? non toglie che dopo la dismissione dalla primaria funzione, in un secondo momento le piramidi siano state anche delle sepolture reali, come testimoniano i ritrovamenti dei corredi funebri.
